It's Time to Shed your Lockdown Skin

Is this really the Perfect Peel?

Never have I felt the need to shed my skin, more than I have following the last six months.

A symbol of rejuvenation and new life, where ‘the old skin has to be shed before the new one can come’, the notion of skin shedding to start anew takes on a very real and literal meaning when it comes to skincare.

Voted as ‘Best new facial skincare treatment’ when it first hit the scene in 2015, The Perfect Peel is the ultimate skin shredding treatment for those wanting to reveal fresher, younger and healthier looking complexion.

I was initially contacted about the Perfect Peel way back in January when Covid 19 was just a whisper in the news and ‘lockdown’ a rarely used work in my vocabulary. Following a read of the press release, I immediately emailed back, believing it sounded like the ideal treatment to renew and revive my post baby skin. Fast forward a few weeks and I am sat in the reception room of Skin SouthWest waiting for my appointment with Dr Pradnya.

A finalist at the Aesthetic Dentistry Awards, Save The Face accredited (a professional standards authority recognised by the government for providing safe atheistic treatments) and with clinics in both her home town of Exeter and London’s Harley street, it’s safe to say that Dr Pradnya is no rogue trader. She is also bubbly, welcoming and clearly knows her stuff, instantly putting me at ease whilst talking through the finer details of the Perfect Peel.

A revolutionary five ingredient treatment, the whole in-clinic process is surprisingly quick. Taking around 15 minutes and involving a simple cleanse and peel application, it’s a painless procedure but one that can only be performed by medically trained professionals. Featuring Glutathione, a naturally occurring anti-aging antioxidant ingredient never used before in a peel, it works by penetrating deep into the cellular level of the skin to fight oxidant damage and premature wrinkling, whilst Kojic acid, a powerful lightening agent proven to increase collagen and elastin production, brightens and tightens the skin.  But the magic doesn’t stop there. The added addition of TCA, phenol and retinoic acid reduces wrinkles and corrects pigment problems, as salicylic acid exfoliates the skin and reduces inflammation. The end result I am told, are outstanding.

Before I head home, Dr Pradnya hands me the Perfect Peel home treatment pack and goes through the simple step-by-step instructions on how to complete treatment at home. The pack contains two retinol wipes and a vitamin C moisturiser to assist the peeling process and enhance your results. I am told to leave my skin for the next 24 hours before washing the peel off with water and applying the retinol wipe. I am then to wait another 24 hours before applying the second wipe.  Over the next few days as my skin begins to tighten and peel off, I may apply the vitamin C moisturiser to soothe and improve the appearance of my skin.

I leave the clinic with what looks like a strong sunburn and over the next few days continue to follow the advice of Dr Pradnya. By day three, just as my skin feels like it couldn’t possibly get any tighter, I start to peel. The peeling process continues over the next five days and although not attractive to look at, it doesn’t stop me going about my daily tasks.

But is seven days of my face falling off really worth it? Is the Perfect Peel as ‘perfect’ as it claims to be? And would I do it again?

The answer, to all three is yes, yes and yes again, and the reason is this. Other than Botox and fillers there are very few non-invasive treatments that provide such significant results in such a short period of time. Within one week, following just one treatment, the visible lifting of fine lines and wrinkles, tighter pores and more even complexion was clear for all too see. And whilst not pretty the peeling process really is a cathartic one.

Add to that, the long-term side effects of improved collagen and elastin, resulting in tighter, firmer skin and it’s no wonder they named it the Perfect Peel.
